How much Claude Opus 5.5 do Pro and Max get, and did five-hour limits rise?
Anthropic publishes no Opus 5.5 message count. Max gets 5x or 20x Pro's usage per five-hour session, plus a weekly limit. At the September 22, 2026 launch Anthropic said it was increasing five-hour limits on Pro and Max, without a figure.
Checked against the lab's own pages on September 30, 2026. Limits change often, so the date matters.
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, 2026, and the launch post says it's increasing five-hour usage limits on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans. It doesn't say by how much.
I went through the pricing page and four help center articles looking for a number, and there isn't an Opus 5.5 message count in any of them. So what you get is Max sold as a multiple of Pro. Then there are two clocks.

What went up with Opus 5.5
Two things came with the launch. Five-hour limits went up, and subscribers got a rate limit reset they can save and use whenever they choose. There's no percentage for the increase, though. The Pro and Max help pages describe the limits as multiples and give no new figure.

The reset puts either your five-hour session limit or your weekly limit back to full, depending on which one your account shows. You'll find it in Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop, and our page on using the limit reset walks through it.
It wasn't the first increase this year. On May 6, 2026, Anthropic doubled Claude Code's five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans, and removed the peak hours limit reduction on Claude Code for Pro and Max.

How Pro and Max compare
Pro costs $20 a month in the US ($17 a month if you pay for a year up front, which works out to $200 billed at once) and gives you at least 5x the usage of Free per five-hour session. Max 5x is $100. Max 20x is $200, for 20 times Pro's usage per session. Opus comes with all of them.
How far that goes on Opus 5.5 depends on what you ask it to do. Anthropic's pricing FAQ says there's no fixed message count, since it depends on how long and complex your conversations get. The model and features you choose matter too. The help center also counts effort level as a factor, which our effort level page covers.
When your limits reset
The session limit resets every five hours. The weekly limit covers all models and resets at a fixed time each week that's assigned to your account, whenever you started using Claude. Settings > Usage shows progress bars for both, along with your next reset.
Chats and Claude Code draw from the same pool. Anthropic can also limit usage in other ways, such as weekly and monthly caps, at its discretion. (Both plan articles carry that line too.)
What happens when you hit one
Wait for it to reset, or move to a higher plan. On paid plans you can also turn on usage credits and keep working at standard API rates.
