Slovenia's .si web addresses sold 13 times faster in September after Trump renamed AI
A rename meant for federal paperwork turned a small country's web suffix into a speculator's market, and some of the buying started before Trump said a word at the UN.
Slovenia's web addresses are selling like never before, and the reason is a word change in Washington. On September 29, 2026, President Trump signed an executive order telling the executive branch to say "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in place of artificial intelligence and AI. Slovenia's country code on the web is, as it happens, .si.
The security firm Netcraft has been counting. In an update on October 1, it says about 13 times as many .si domains were registered in September as in August, and the daily rate more than doubled once the order was signed.
- Daily, September 23
- 4,794 registered in the last 24 hours
- Daily, October 1
- 13,603
- Eight-day growth
- 21.6% increase in .si domains
- September vs August
- About 13 times as many
- One year of .si
- Around $11
How it started
Trump first floated the name at the UN General Assembly on September 22, and Netcraft's first post, two days later, found .si registrations had overtaken .ai within 25 hours of the speech. But the buying started earlier. Netcraft traces the first spike to roughly three days before, around a poll Trump shared on Truth Social about a new name for AI.
After President Trump proposed renaming AI to "super intelligence" (SI), registrations of Slovenian .si domains overtook .ai. Netcraft's latest research explores the surge, domain speculation, and the cybersecurity implications. https://t.co/sN5e4RcfI6 #domains #AI #SI
Most of those early names went through Dynadot, a registrar that runs a resale market. About 52% of the .si domains Netcraft saw registered there between the poll and the speech were already listed for resale a day later. Anyone can buy one (you don't need to live in Slovenia), and it costs around $11 a year against roughly $180 for the minimum two years of .ai.

After the order
The second wave came from OpusDNS, a registrar that sells to domain resellers and appears to have switched on .si on the afternoon of September 23 (Netcraft works that out from when its registrations begin). It's the only new name on the list: Slovenia's registrar count went from 91 to 92.
Some of it sits outside .si altogether. Netcraft found 87 .com addresses pairing big brand names with "superintelligence", registered in two batches a few hours before Trump signed, each now listed for sale.
Each domain is now listed for sale for $20,000.
Netcraft hasn't seen phishing tied to the rename yet. It does flag the risk, and it's a plain one: on a QWERTY keyboard, a .si address is one slipped key away from the .ai address next to it.
Who's buying
Some buyers just want the name for themselves. Suhail's post on September 30 is the cheerful end of the rush.
Get your .si domain people! Appreciate @rob at @snagged for helping us lock it down :)
The order gives the President's science adviser 60 days to propose a legal definition of super intelligence to replace the existing one for artificial intelligence. That's due by late November.
