Updates as you typePlan seven dinners for two adults. What we eat: vegetarian twice a week, no shellfish Effort level: half an hour on weeknights Budget: keep it cheap Rules for the plan: - Ingredients must overlap, so a bunch of coriander or a tin of chickpeas gets used more than once. Nothing bought for a single meal unless it keeps. - Put the longest cook on a weekend, and the fastest on the days people are most tired. - If a meal makes good leftovers, say which day eats them. Give me: 1. The seven days as a simple list, one line each: day, meal, how long it takes. 2. A shopping list grouped by aisle: produce, dairy, meat and fish, tins and dry, freezer. 3. A short note of anything I probably already have, so I can check before buying. Keep the whole thing on one screen. No paragraphs.
What you get: Seven days on one screen, then a shopping list grouped by aisle so you can walk the shop in one pass.

The bit that makes a meal plan actually work
Most plans fail because seven meals need seven sets of ingredients and half of them go off. The instruction that does the work here is the one about overlap: it forces every bunch of herbs to appear twice.
Grouping the list by aisle is the other half. A list in recipe order sends you back and forth across the shop.
