Gemini Call for Me phones businesses from your own number and opens by saying it's AI

The person who picks up hears your name, Google's, and that the line is recorded.

Google has started letting Gemini make phone calls for people. The feature is called Call for Me, and its help page, which I read on September 29, 2026, says it's reaching eligible users gradually. You ask the Gemini app to ring a business, and it checks opening hours or stock, books or moves an appointment, sits through the phone menu and waits on hold.

It's a narrow launch. You need a Pixel 11 with a US SIM, a Google AI subscription and the public beta of the Phone by Google app, and your phone has to be set to English. It can only dial US numbers.

What the other side hears

The call goes out on your mobile network from your own phone number (so your carrier's normal rates apply). Then Gemini introduces itself.

Before the reason for the call comes up, the shop has already heard your name and that a Google AI is on a recorded line. Businesses (and anyone else) who'd rather not get these calls can opt out on a Google page, and opt back in later.

Before dialing, Gemini shows you a summary: the number it's about to call and what it plans to share, such as your name and contact details. You can change the task there. Typing @Call for me in a prompt calls the feature up directly.

Watching it happen

You can follow a live transcript or listen in, with your microphone muted by default. Tapping Take over unmutes you (Gemini tells the other person you're taking over, then leaves the call). Afterward you get a summary in the Gemini app, and the full transcript and the recording sit in your Phone app's call history.

There's a list of things it won't touch. It can't call 911 or other emergency services. It won't pay for anything or read out card numbers, and it won't pass along things like Social Security numbers, passwords or health details. Telemarketing is out too.
