Claude can now read your bank and card accounts through Plaid, but it can't move money
It sees up to two years of transactions from the accounts you pick, and chats in the hub aren't used for training.
On November 5, 2026, Anthropic introduced Personal Finance in Claude, a hub where you connect your bank and card accounts and ask about your money in plain words. It starts rolling out in beta this week on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans, in the US only.
The access is read-only. Anthropic says Personal Finance can't move, manage or invest your money, and it isn't designed to give investment advice.

What you can ask it
Anthropic's walk-through starts late in the month, with payday 10 days off. Ask where the money went and Claude adds up spending across every connected account and sorts it by category. In the example that's $4,309.37, with more than half on rent and utilities and $1,024.51 on food and drink.
Then you just keep asking. Is that more than usual? What's left before payday? Claude finds a membership renewal, lists four payments still due to come out of checking, and lands on $1,393.22. (It's Anthropic's sample month, so don't read anything into the rent.)
You can ask it to look for what's easy to miss. Its examples are a charge that hit twice, an unexpected fee and a bill that's crept up all year. Ask what an APR is and Claude explains the term, then adds up the interest you've actually been charged this year, which is a sum most of us never bother to do.
It draws charts as well.
Claude can make mistakes in its answers, so ask which transactions are behind a number, and check important figures with your bank.
What Claude gets to see
You connect an account by signing in to your bank yourself through Plaid, a service that links apps to banks. That's where you approve the read-only access, so Claude never asks for or sees your bank password.
For the accounts you pick, and only those, Claude sees the bank's name, each account's name, type and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. That's a lot to hand over, so connect the accounts you actually want answers about.
Chats inside the Personal Finance hub aren't used to train Anthropic's models. Anything you share outside the hub falls under your usual privacy settings, though, so I'd keep money questions in the hub rather than pasting a statement into an ordinary chat.
Unlink an account and Claude can't see its data any more. There are no ads or sponsored recommendations, Anthropic says, and Claude doesn't offer credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own.
Personal Finance is a first step.
Your bank data and the law
Whether a bank has to hand your data to an app at all is still a live question in US rules. Section 1033 of the Consumer Financial Protection Act says a bank must make transaction data available to consumers on request, under rules the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau writes.
The CFPB's final rule of October 22, 2024 extended that to authorized third parties, with conditions on how they collect, use and keep the data. Then on August 22, 2025 it opened a reconsideration covering four issues, among them who can act as a consumer's representative and what fees a bank may charge to answer a request. The bureau's page on the rule was last modified August 27, 2025. It doesn't say how that came out.
For a household the point is simpler. Claude can tell you where the money went. Paying, moving and investing it stays with you and your bank.
What comes next
Anthropic calls this a first step. For bigger money decisions it says people are best served by Claude working alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, and it wants to hear from banks, wealth managers and financial services companies. (We covered the adviser side in September, when Schwab was named the first custodian in Anthropic's Advisor Product.)
The hub shows up in Claude's sidebar once it reaches your account, and the setup steps are in Anthropic's Help Center.
