Plan a week when there's too much on
Everything you're carrying, laid out across the days, with what slips to next week.
Fill in the blanks
Already filled with an exampleYour prompt
Updates as you typeHere's everything I'm carrying this week: finish the quarterly deck, dentist, book flights for August, mum's birthday present, three loads of washing, reply to Sam about the house, run twice, food shop, fix the leaking tap Already fixed: Mon and Thu in the office, dentist Wed 2pm, kids' pickup every day at 3.30 Must happen: the deck, it's presented Friday morning Free time I actually have: maybe two hours an evening, and Saturday morning Assume I cannot do all of it. That's the point of asking. Give me: 1. A plan, one line per day, Monday to Sunday. What I'm doing that day and roughly when. Nothing on a day that's already full. 2. What slips to next week, and what it costs me to let it slip. Be specific about the cost, not reassuring. 3. Anything on my list that takes under five minutes, gathered into one block, so I can clear it in one go. 4. Anything I've written down that isn't actually mine to do, or that nobody will notice if I never do it. Put the hardest thinking on the day I'm most likely to be fresh. Don't put two heavy things on the same evening. Keep the whole thing on one screen.
What you get: Your week on one screen, plus an honest list of what's slipping and what that costs you.

Telling it you can't do it all
Without that line you get a plan that fits everything, because a model will happily schedule fourteen hours into a Tuesday. Saying up front that some of it has to go turns the answer from a wish list into a set of choices.
The last question earns its place more often than you'd think. Half a bad week is jobs somebody else assumed you'd pick up.

A present for someone you actually know
Tell it what they're really like. Get ideas that aren't a gift guide for their demographic.
