Plan five nights in late April in Lisbon, and one day trip out of the city.

Who's going: me and my dad, he's 68 and his knees are bad on hills
Pace: a couple of things a day
Can't miss: the tram up to the castle, a proper seafood dinner, and the tile museum if it's not miles away

Build it day by day. One line per day is not enough, but keep each day short:
- One anchor for the day, the thing worth building around
- What's within a ten minute walk of it, so we're not crossing the city twice
- How long it actually takes to get from each thing to the next, and how
- Where we eat near the anchor, one cheap option and one worth booking
- The thing to drop from that day if we're wiped out

Rules: one anchor a day, never two. Put the most walking on the day we arrive rested, not the day after a late night. If two things I asked for are on opposite sides of the city, say so and put them on different days.

At the end, give me a short list of what needs booking ahead and how far ahead, and one line on anything that's closed on the days we're there.

What you get: A day per day with real travel times between stops, plus the thing to cut on each day when you've run out of legs.

One anchor a day

That's the instruction doing the work. Ask for an itinerary and you get six sights a day, which reads beautifully and collapses by Tuesday. Forcing one anchor per day leaves room for the walk, the queue and the long lunch that actually happen.

The other half is the drop line. Every day comes with something you're allowed to skip, decided while you were fresh rather than at 4pm in the heat.
