Updates as you typeI don't understand this bill and I want to before I pay it. It's a phone or internet bill. What I expected to pay: about $95, I was told the plan was $65 and the phone was on top Here it is: Monthly plan (Unlimited Plus) $65.00 Device payment 14 of 36 $27.78 Access charge $5.00 Regulatory cost recovery fee $3.49 Administrative fee $3.30 International roaming day pass x2 $20.00 Promotional credit -$10.00 Taxes, surcharges and fees $8.41 Total due $122.98 Go through it line by line. For each line: - What the charge is, in plain words. - Whether it's usually a fixed charge, something I chose, or something I can change or remove. Then: 1. Add the lines up and check they match the total. Show the sum. If they don't match, say by how much. 2. Explain the difference between what I expected and what I've been charged, line by line, so I can see where the gap comes from. 3. Mark any charge that looks unusual, duplicated or worth asking about, and write the exact question I'd ask the company about each one. Only explain what's on the page. Where something depends on my contract or on local rules, say that plainly and tell me what to look for or who to ask, rather than guessing. If a line is ambiguous, say so.
What you get: Every charge explained in plain words, and a question ready for each one worth disputing.

Why it adds the bill up
Asking the model to show the sum does two jobs. It catches the rare bill that doesn't total, and it catches the model itself, which can get arithmetic wrong when it doesn't write the working out. If its sum and the bill's total disagree, check the lines yourself before calling anyone.
The questions at the end are the useful bit. "Why is there a $3.30 administrative fee?" gets a straighter answer on the phone than "my bill seems high".
