OpenAI and Meta are among 13 applicants for .agent, ICANN's new domain list shows
The list gives the names behind each bid and nothing about plans, and OpenAI's company is also in line for .agi and .asi.
On October 7, 2026, ICANN published the applications in its 2026 round of new top-level domains. Its contention list, which groups every application for the same string, shows 13 of them asking to run .agent.
Two of those come from AI companies. OPENAI OPCO, LLC is on the .agent list, and so is Meta Registry Holdings LLC. OpenAI's company shows up again in the groups for .agi and .asi.

Who else wants .agent
The other names in the .agent group include Charleston Road Registry Inc., XYZ.COM LLC, Radix Technologies Inc SEZC and a company called Open Agent Registry, Inc. When more than one applicant asks for the same string, they sit in one contention set, and ICANN's announcement says that list went out with the applications.
The .agi group has seven applications and .asi has five. Radix is in all three of these groups, just like OpenAI, and Link Freedom Group Ltd is in both .agi and .asi.
The contention list gives names, not plans, so it doesn't say what OpenAI or Meta would do with .agent if they got it. ICANN says the public portions of each application are out too, which is where a plan would be written down.
What happens next
ICANN's chief executive, Kurtis Lindqvist, framed the day as a step for the whole naming system.
Reveal Day marks an important milestone for the next expansion of the Domain Name System
Applicants now get two weeks to swap in a different string, if they're eligible. A replacement can't match a string somebody else already asked for, so it's no way to jump into another group.

- replacement period closes
- String Confirmation Day, objections open
- objections period ends
The final string list comes out on String Confirmation Day, November 17, 2026, which also starts four months of community input and objections. ICANN will hold its prioritization draw on a date it hasn't set yet, in the first half of 2027.
