Claude now writes documents and slide decks, and Cowork folds into the chat window
Anthropic says people kept losing time deciding which half of Claude a job belonged in, so it took the choice away.
Anthropic collapsed two of its products into one on September 16, 2026. Claude Cowork, the separate place it built for bigger work, is merging into ordinary Claude chat, and the post announcing that launches Claude Docs and Claude Slides on the same day.
Ask for a document and you and Claude write it together. Ask for a presentation and Claude drafts the slides, which you can edit in place, present straight from Claude, or download as PowerPoint or PDF.

Why they stopped shipping two things
Anthropic's reason is about where people got stuck. Plenty of them used both products. The complaint was the choosing.
We built Cowork as a separate place for bigger work, and Design for visual work. People used both, and told us the frustrating part was deciding where a task belonged
So Claude works out what a job needs by itself now, and everything Cowork and Design could do reaches you from any conversation. Claude Design, the visual one, runs inside conversations as well, and it still works on its own if that's how you use it. Whatever you make ends up at a single shareable link you can open on a phone, select an element on, and move.
What that looks like on a Monday
The worked example in Anthropic's post is a weekly report due at noon. You ask what moved in the pipeline last week, tell Claude to write it up the usual way, flag anything that slipped, and put the highlights in five slides. Claude asks if something's unclear, you check progress from your phone, and the doc and the deck are both waiting when you get to your desk. Schedule it and Claude starts the report on its own every Monday.
The setting worth finding
By default Claude asks before it takes an action. You can switch that off, so it keeps going and only checks in when something needs a closer look, and Anthropic's line on that is short: you keep the final say. Given that a scheduled report can now start itself every Monday without being asked, I'd leave the default alone for a week or two first.
If you already use Cowork, nothing moves. Chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills stay where you left them, and the same context follows a task into a doc or a deck.

Who gets it
Pro and Max plans first, in the Claude app on web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks, with nothing to turn on at your end. Enterprise admins decide when Docs, Slides and Design switch on for their people, and Anthropic says it'll give them at least 30 days before anything changes.
Team and Free plans get no date in the post. The word it uses is "soon".
