Plan limits

How do you use the free Claude limit reset that came with Opus 5.5?

Go to Settings > Usage on the web or in Claude Desktop and click Reset for free. It puts your five-hour session limit or your weekly limit back to full right away, can't be undone, and expires on the date the offer shows.

Checked against the lab's own pages on September 23, 2026. Limits change often, so the date matters.

Anthropic gave subscribers a free limit reset when it released Claude Opus 5.5, and people keep asking where it is and when to use it. The help center has a short article on exactly that.

The launch post calls it a rate limit reset that you can save and use whenever you choose. It came with higher five-hour usage limits on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans.

How to use it

Go to Settings, then Usage, on the web or in Claude Desktop. The reset sits in the Resets section. Click Reset for free, then confirm by clicking it again.

The same button shows up on the message you get when you hit a limit, so you can wait until then. You don't have to (the help center says you can use it before you reach a limit).

Depending on the limit reset shown, either your five-hour session limit or your weekly usage limit go back to full right away.

Which one you get depends on the reset your account shows, so check the Resets section before you spend it.

What it doesn't do

A reset doesn't move your weekly reset, which still comes on its usual day and time. It won't refund extra usage you've already been billed for, and it leaves your usage credit balance where it was.

If you downgrade or cancel before you use it, it's gone. An unused reset also expires on the day and time listed on the offer, and Settings > Usage shows the date when there is one.

When your limits come back anyway

Without a reset, the session limit resets every five hours. On Max plans the weekly limit resets at a fixed time each week that's assigned to your account, and Settings > Usage shows the next one. A weekly reset saves you the most waiting when you've just run out early in the week.

Your limits are shared across your account. After a reset they're back to full on Claude Mobile and in Claude Code too, even though you can't press the button in either.
