Where it stands

Nine states have now sued OpenAI over ChatGPT's safety: eight filed on October 14, and Texas followed on October 23 under its consumer protection law. Texas also named Sam Altman, and under that law a judge could order an injunction or fines of up to $10,000 per violation.
