What do you actually get on Claude Max 5x and Max 20x?
Max 5x is $100 a month for five times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance, and Max 20x is $200 for 20 times it. Both add a weekly limit across all models that resets on a fixed day.

Claude Max comes in two tiers, and the number in the name is the usage multiplier. Anthropic's help center puts Max 5x at $100 a month for five times the Pro plan's per-session usage allowance, and Max 20x at $200 a month for 20 times it.
Those are the web prices. Anthropic says mobile pricing may vary depending on your app platform (it doesn't say by how much), and that prices and plans are subject to change at its discretion.

Two clocks run at once
The session limit resets every five hours. Over the top of that, Max plans carry a weekly usage limit that applies across all models, and it resets at a fixed time each week assigned to your account.
Your reset day and time stay put whether or not you use Claude, and the full weekly allowance comes back each cycle. Settings, then Usage shows the next one.

Why a Max 20x subscriber can still run out
The multiplier is measured against the Pro plan's per-session allowance, and the weekly limit sits above it across every model you touch. Anthropic's usage article lists what moves it: how long and complex your conversations get, the features you use, which Claude model you're chatting with, and the effort level you've picked.

Anthropic keeps room to tighten things further, too. The Max article says it may limit usage in other ways, such as weekly and monthly caps or model and feature usage, at its discretion.
What counts against it
All of it. claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Desktop count toward the same usage limit, so a heavy afternoon in the terminal shows up in the chat app too.
Billing, and the discount question
Max is monthly only. Upgrading from a lower tier is charged prorated for the rest of your billing cycle, and moving off an annual Pro plan can leave you a credit for the remaining balance (only if the billing address on the Max plan matches the old one, which is the kind of condition people find out about afterwards).
On discounts, Anthropic doesn't offer standard discounted pricing on any paid plan, Max 5x and 20x included, and says support can't issue one-off discounts or coupons. These numbers were read on September 21, 2026.
